MCI SYSTEMHOUSE won a $10.4 million contract to formulate a state-of-the-industry emergency communications system for St. Mary`s County, Maryland. Under the contract, MCI Systemhouse, a division of MCI WorldCom, will design, fund, manage, and construct a new 7,100-square foot communications center in Leonardtown, Maryland, that will consolidate two former communications centers and streamline the emergency call response process. The new center will include consoles, a new radio infrastructure, enhanced 911 telephone service, and related communications technologies. The radio infrastructure will include a trunked 800-megahertz system and radio field equipment that will provide public safety grade coverage within the county. On full system implementation, the company will provide transition assistance to county employees until they can operate, manage, and maintain operations independently.
