Newly formed IFSEI to hold codes conference in Sweden in June 2000
The International Fire Safety Engineering Institute (IFSEI) was established in August 1998 by the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), the Australian Society of Fire Safety (SFS), and the UK Institute of Fire Safety (IFS). At the inaugural meeting of its board of directors–consisting of leaders of the SFPE, SFS, and IFS–held in Bethesda, Maryland, in October 1998, the following officers were elected: Dr. Eric W. Marchant, president; Martin Cole, treasurer; and William E. Koffel, Jr., secretary.
The organizations will exchange publications and education programs at member discounts and work together to foster the concept of the global fire protection engineer through the exchange of information of licensing procedures in each country. To that end, an IFSEI Working Group on Fire Engineering Guidance met in September 1998 to exchange information on the status of the development of performance-based design guides currently under development in each country. The IFSEI will collaborate on five technical aspects of fire safety design through exchange of data and methods and will work to harmonize guidance documents. The IFSEI will cosponsor the 3rd International Conference on Performance-Based Codes and Fire Safety Design Methods in Lund, Sweden, in June 2000.
