NFPA establishes new projects
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards Council voted at its January 1999 meeting to establish a Fire Risk Assessment Methods project and an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) project.
The Risk Assessment Committee would be responsible for developing criteria for acceptable fire risk assessment–not the fire risk assessment methods themselves. NFPA 550, Guide to the Fire Safety Concept Tree, has been assigned to this project. The Committee will also make recommendations on the need to address the subject of typical fire scenarios as it deems appropriate.
The new EMS project will address EMS-related topics not now covered by other existing NFPA projects.
Anyone who would like to serve on these or other NFPA technical committees should submit a completed technical committee application form, which is available from Standards Administration, NFPA, One Batterymarch Park, P.O. Box 9101, Quincy, MA 02269-9101.
Also, the NFPA is seeking new members for several committees, including the following:
Committee on Emergency Medical Services–all interest categories.
Committee on Marine Fire Fighting Vessels (NFPA 1925, Standard on Marine Fire Fighting Vessels)–all interest categories, especially fire boat users, architects or marine engineers, and marine engine manufacturers.
Committee on Motor Vehicle and Highway Fire Protection (NFPA 502, Standard for Road Tunnels, Bridges, and Other Limited Access Highways, and NFPA 513, Standard for Motor Freight Terminals)–individuals with expertise in the trucking industry, especially motor freight terminals.
Committee on Water Additives for Fire Control and Vapor Mitigation (NFPA 18, Standard on Wetting Agents)–all interest categories except manufacturers. n
