About 200 people were displaced Tuesday when the Fire Department of New York and the Buildings Department evacuated a Bronx apartment building.
The agencies were forced to order the evacuation because the owner of the building removed the fire escapes while work was being done to the structure, according to ny1.com (http://bit.ly/L2Sjkl).
Some tenants said they suspect the bulding owner is trying to force them to leave so he can rent the apartments out at higher rates.
