Safety Program Developed

A federally funded 18 month program aimed at decreasing the risk of death or injury among the elderly and increase their fire-safety awareness has been developed.

The New York City Fire Department began the program by conducting five weekly sessions at 185 senior citizen centers in the New York area. Each program included discussion, slides, exhibits and demonstrations.

The contents of the program are planned to be turned over to the U.S. Fire administration’s public education program to expand awareness among all elderly citizens.
