Spring Forward: Change Your Clocks and Your Batteries!

By Ashley Lopez

Ocala (FL) Fire Rescue

It’s that time of the year again; daylight saving time is back! March 8th,marks the beginning of that extra sunlight hour, and while it’s important to change the time of our clocks, there is another task that should be done simultaneously– changing the batteries in our smoke alarms.

Ocala (FL) Fire Rescue strongly encourages everyone to change your smoke detector batteries annually. OFR distributes and installs smoke alarms to city residents who cannot afford to purchase one, upon request, at no charge. To request a dual sensor alarm please visit www.ocalafire.org or call Fire Administration at 629-8306.

“The simple act of having a working smoke alarm more than doubles your chance of escaping and surviving a fire in your home” states Ocala Fire Chief Bradd Clark.

Remember it is working smoke alarms that save lives.
