Fire at University of Wisconsin La Crosse Dorm Displaces Hundreds of Students

More than 250 students were displaced by a fire early Sunday at a dorm on the campus of University of Wisconsin La Crosse.

According to a story on LaCrosseTribune.com (http://bit.ly/xOuPJ3), the fire erupted in the predawn hours at Drake Hall. Fire alarms evacuated the building.

Displaced students were still without homes Tuesday, and repairs to the building were expected to take some weeks. The building’s fire alarm system will have to be entirely rebuilt. Like eight of the university’s 11 other residence halls, the burned building does not have a sprinkler system,

Fire inspectors have yet to determine the cause of the fire.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, but not before it destroyed some contents of the building.
