Witmer Public Safety Group, Inc., (WPSG) has announced they will not impose a surcharge to customers using their credit cards to make purchases. The parent company of TheFireStore.com, OfficerStore.com, and theEMSstore.com understands that the current economic conditions of their customers across the country are difficult enough and has rejected the opportunity to charge additional “swipe fees” of up to 4% on purchases.
The settlement of a long-running antitrust suit between card companies and merchants opened the door for merchants nationwide to add surcharges onto purchases made with VISA and MasterCard Credit Cards. WPSG made the decision not to add surcharges because they value their customers, understand their current economic challenges, and seek to maximize the purchasing power of each dollar their customers invest in public safety equipment and supplies.
WPSG has joined some of the country’s largest retailers including Wal-Mart, Target, Sears, Home Depot, and Rite Aid. All of these retailers do not plan on taking advantage of the new rule.
