A firefighter was critically injured during training over the weekend in Selma, California.
Chris Nelson, a 10 year veteran firefighter and paramedic, was participating in a ladder training drill when he plunged 12 feet, landing on his head, KFSN reported (http://bit.ly/1nrSM0x). It is unclear if something affected him medically to cause the fall.
He was wearing his fire helmet, but he was also carrying a second ladder. Two other firefighters came to his aid. Doctors at Community Regional Medical Center performed extensive surgery on Nelson. He is still in critical condition Monday night, but reportedly regained consciousness.
