I get that you need to pass the competency tests, but if your academy or training program only focuses on the test results and not on real-world practical firefighting knowledge and skills, then you’re setting yourself and your department up for a big fall. Not much is built when your foundation is based on the bare minimum standards that kill competency, morale, and retention. The test is just the beginning of the sharing of knowledge and skills, not the foundation!
