Every fire department across the county share the same operational objectives, but the steps that we take and the tools that we use to achieve them can differ greatly.
Part 2 of the engine company series will focus on basic engine company operations. Discussion points should use selected address and building areas to highlight the diversity of engine company operations. In most operations, a Plan B should exist that is exercised in training and discussions in case problems arise with standard operations. These discussion and fill-in box points provide you with a chance to talk it out and consider standard operations and alternatives in basic initial engine operations. As always, consider the content of your SOG/SOP and best practices in your department when answering.

Forest Reeder began his fire service career in 1979. He currently serves as Division Chief of Training & Safety for the Des Plaines (IL) Fire Department. He is a past recipient of the International Society of Fire Service Instructors (ISFSI) prestigious George D. Post Instructor of the Year award and has been responsible for the design, implementation and coordination of in-service firefighter training activities as well as a full-service fire training academy program. Forest holds numerous Illinois fire service certifications and holds a Masters Degree in Public Safety Administration from Lewis University.
