Drill of the Week: Fire Service Vehicle Operator

By Forest Reeder

This drill begins a series on the responsibilities of the emergency vehicle operator.

Beginning with the administrative policies relating to who drives the emergency vehicles in your department, we will explore the responsibilities of these persons and understand how the qualification process to be an operator works in your department. Consult your department’s training policy on driver/operator training and refer to National Fire Protection Assocation 1451, Standard on Fire Service Vehicle Operations Training Program (2007), for further information and recommendations. For the next several weeks, we will review the responsibilities of driver/operators in an effort to help reduce accidents and injuries.
