With next year’s training planning well underway, Fire Engineering would like to offer some topics and drill subjects to assist you in planning your 2008 training calendar.
Officer training beyond NFPA 1021 training may be nonexistent in many departments, and this is something that must change. Company-level officer training is one of the most important parts of a training program. Referencing your department’s SOGs and vpolicies, these topics can easily be plugged into lesson plans, quick drills, and other training delivery systems to help you fill holes in your training coverage. Remember, the ISO requires at least 16 hours of officer training per year; this may be part of the way you satisfy this requirement. Accreditation commissions also require coverage in this area according to each level of job description.
