Drill of the Week: Progress Reports

By Forest Reeder

Progress reporting and observing the progress (or the lack thereof) during an incident is a crucial part of ensuring safety and survival on the fireground. All members operating should be aware of the communications process and be cued into the visual observations that can be made at the incident. Each action and each radio transmission can indicate how well the incident is being managed and if it is being controlled.

Discuss each of these indicators of company progress and how it impacts or indicates the control of the incident. Review your department’s communication procedures during this training session.
