Drill of the Week: Responding to the Scene

By Forest Reeder

Don’t take for granted the few minutes you have in the cab of your responding vehicle as part of the incident preparation process. Use this time as a crew to set the incident action plan into motion.

The company officer can begin to coordinate incident scene orders even while responding to the scene from within the cab of the apparatus. Listening to radio information, identification of basic incident factors along with other crew preparation activities may help eliminate a chaotic arrival on the scene.
