Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau Signs Agreement with Pearson Vue

Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau (FSTB) has entered into an exclusive agreement with Pearson VUE to transition its testing program to a computer-based format, allowing firefighters to pursue certification at 15 highly secure testing sites across the state.

A range of 13 computer-based exams can be taken at Pearson Professional Centers, Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Centers and community colleges. The agreement includes provision of call center registration and support, web registration, test publishing, and test administration. On-site score reporting informs test takers of their results on the day they sit an exam – allowing them to plan the next stage of their careers quicker than before.

Test takers also benefit from greater accessibility as the exams are available throughout the year, as opposed to during specific windows. While allowing firefighters to pursue certification as soon as they are ready, the arrangement ensures that stations do not lose multiple professionals on a single day.

John McPhee, Certification and Accreditation Manager, Iowa FSTB, said: “Moving an exam program to a computer-based format enhances the test taker experience. The certifying of firefighters is a crucial requirement, with the transition making scheduling, preparing and sitting exams accessible and convenient.”

Robert Whelan, CEO and President of Pearson VUE, added: “It is always rewarding to help professionals advance their careers, particularly when their ability and knowledge is essential to protecting the lives of citizens. Certifications achieved by firefighters form badges of ability, demonstrating their commitment to their roles as well as professional development.”
