Dec. 15—GRIFFITH — The Indiana Fire and Public Safety Academy assisted the Griffith Fire Department with conducting live training burns in an acquired structure Saturday morning in Griffith.
More than 50 firefighters across 12 departments teamed up with academy instructors from District 1, 2 and 4 to enhance their knowledge and skill set in fire attack, officials said.
Firefighters also learned about search and rescue, fire behavior, water supply and incident command skills, the academy said in a statement on social media.
From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Broad Street was closed between Wirth and Ridge Road. Crown Point, Lake Ridge, Lake Hills and Munster Fire Departments also provided equipment and personnel.
“Yesterday’s training was a great opportunity and experience on many levels,” the Griffith Fire Department said on Sunday. “Thank you everyone who attended, and all the support behind the scenes for making it successful.”
