N.Y. Arson Grant

N.Y. Arson Grant

Under a legislative grant, $172,192 has been designated for 15 counties and New York City in the first phase of a program against arson.

The money was appropriated last year by the legislature to help the counties in their fight against arson—a crime that State Fire Administrator Francis A. McGarry has described as “epidemic.” Statewide, arson losses amount to about $175 million a year.

The grants are among the first developments of a comprehensive program initiated last year with the establishment on Sept. 1 of the Office of Fire Prevention and Control in The Department of State.
