NJ Fire Captain, 46, Dies During In-Station Training Drill

Hopatcong Fire Captain Henry Sardina III was leading an in-station drill when he suffered an apparent heart attack on Thursday, November 21, the U.S. Fire Administration reports.

The attack left Sardina unresponsive. Firefighters revived him by performing CPR on him. He was then transported to the hospital but suffered additional complications and cardiac emergencies in the days that followed.

Sardina died in the hospital on Sunday, November 24, 2024. He had served with the department for 13 years.
