Report: Seattle Fire Department Promotional Exams Feature ‘Woke’ Literature

Seattle (WA) Fire Department promotional exams for lieutenant featured numerous texts of so-called “woke literature” focusing on race and gender issues, according to a report.

The Free Beacon says that the test is based on a list of texts assigned by the Seattle Department of Human Resources, and that the the books about race and gender span more than 800 pages, featuring such works as How To Be An Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi, Both Sides of the Fire Lane: Memoirs of a Transgender Firefighter by Bobbie Scopa, and A Leader’s Guide to Unconscious Bias and Fighting Fire.

The report also says that an upcoming test for fireboat engineers will quiz candidates on Robin DiAngelo’’’s Is Everyone Really Equal?: An Introduction to Key Concepts in Social Justice Education.

A firefighter interviewed by the paper who took the 2021 lieutenant exam claimed that firefighting basics and fire behavior were downplayed in favor of social justice themes.
