Training Program: Horizontal Ventilation Essentials

The Firefighters Support Foundation’s (FSF) newest training program is now available. “Horizontal Ventilation Essentials is a back-to-the-basics presentation of this essential fireground skill,” says FSF President David Kenik. The 55-minute program was filmed on-scene at a burn building, and is presented my Michael Wood, a big-city fire fighter with one of the busiest ladder companies in the country, responsible for training and development.

The program delves into the essentials when, what and how to vent, from both the exterior and interior. It shows the common mistakes made in horizontal ventilation, and shows ways to handle the trouble areas that are often encountered. It is extremely useful as both an introduction to the subject as well as a reminder to veteran fire fighters that sometimes we can try and be too clever in this most basic task.

A feature sure to both raise hackles and be popular is the parody at the beginning of the program, as well as Wood’s direct, no-BS delivery.

The program is free to all members of public safety and  emergency management agencies. Simply watch in the player below or download a copy of the video as either an MPG or M4V file HERE.
