In this firefighter training video, Miami-Dade (FL) Fire Captain Juan Miguel explains residential search as the crew of Engine 11 demonstrate basic search techniques.
A basic search team consists of three members: The office in charge (OIC), point firefighter, and the guy or girl in the back (GIB). Miami-Dade’s medic rescues are staffed with a crew of three: an officer, firefighter driver, and the GIB, who rides in the patient compartment or, in crew cabs, the back seat. Although an engine company performs the search in this video, the primary role of medic-rescue companies at structure fires is search.
