Sixty-one Trenton (NJ) firefighters could be laid off if the city doesn’t get a Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response (SAFER) grant from the federal government, The Trentonian reports. The deadline for the grant is Friday.
An official reported that the layoffs would take place January 5. The president of Trenton’s fire union, Wayne Wolk, told the paper that if the layoffs occur it would “decimate the fire department” and would compromise both civilian and firefighter safety.
