Video obtained by FOX5 gives the viewer a look at the North Las Vegas (NV) firefighter training exercise gone wrong that could cost Chief Al Gillespie his job.
Gillespie is currently on administrative leave. The city said the move was in response to the training exercise gone awry. The firefighters union, however, told FOX5 in a statement that Gillespie was placed on leave after he “refused to implement what he determined were dangerous cuts in 911 response.”
According to a report on the training exercise, four firefighters from four southern Nevada agencies were burned and injured in the January 24 exercise.
The grant-funded, multi-agency live burning exercise, known as the “Detroit Drill” scenario, was designed to demonstrate how a victim might survive between an uncontrolled fire and its exhaust port.
