Detachable Ramp
A detachable ramp is used by the Lexington, Mass., Fire Department to get a gasoline-powered hydraulic rescue tool in and out of a rear compartment of a 1958 pumper. The idea for a diamond plate ramp was borrowed from watching delivery trucks unload heavy items.
At various emergency scenes the rescue tool was frequently needed. Even with a carrying dolly it was still a problem getting the heavy unit in and out of the apparatus. Now the ramp solves the problem with a minimum of trouble. After use, it is stored out of the way.
