Driver and Students Escape Florida School Bus Fire

The driver and 38 middle school students safely escaped a school bus moments before it became engulfed in flames Wednesday morning on Interstate 4 in Polk County, reports tbo.com.

The bus was headed to Discovery Academy, a technology charter school in Lake Alfred.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the bus was traveling west on I-4 when it began to experience mechanical problems and emitting smoke about 7:25 a.m.

The driver pulled to the shoulder west of U.S. 27 to allow students to exit the bus.
