Elkhart Brass announces capacity increase

Elkhart Brass announces the final schedule for consolidation of all handline nozzle manufacturing to the expanded facility at the corporate headquarters in Elkhart, Indiana.

“Streamlined production of all handline nozzles is an important step for Elkhart Brass. It is our intention to offer nothing less than world-class, seamless service to our customers,” notes Don Sjolin, VP of Marketing and
Strategic Development for Elkhart Brass.

Until recently, approximately 30% of handline nozzle production took place at Elkhart Brass’ satellite facility in Shreve, Ohio due to capacity constraints at the Elkhart manufacturing facility. Although effective, the two-facility structure was inefficient and did not allow both facilities to take advantage of technology upgrades.

Over the last 5 years Elkhart Brass has invested heavily in upgrading its Elkhart, Indiana manufacturing capacity with both state-of-the-art equipment and modern processes. Some of the enhancements include: a 10,000 sq-ft indoor test facility, conversion to Infor’s ThruPut (a work-stream optimization software), and purchasing over a dozen new multi-turret machining centers.

“Given the current schedule, we expect to have the remainder of Ohio-based product manufacturing transferred to Elkhart by early summer 2009,” states J.J. Twitchell, Director of Operations for Elkhart Brass. “By which time, our production capacity for handline nozzles will have more than doubled.”
