Compact flashlight

The Mitylite has been added to Pelican’s line of flashlights. It is 4 3/4-inches long and weighs 1.7 ounces with batteries, and offers 300% brighter and longer lamp life than ordinary penlites, according to the company.

The Krypton lamp features a pre-focused, specially designed reflector module. “O” ring sealed, the Mitylite is submersible to 2,000 feet. Other features include an unbreakable shirt clip and ceramic magnet.

Disposable haz-mat suit

Charkate introduces a disposable haz-mat Cocoon Suit that completely seals the wearer from the environment in just seconds, according to the company. The Cocoon (Model #8202 SCB) weighs less than a pound and has a diagonal front zipper for fast utilization.

The suit is roomy for optimal comfort and maneuvering, and easily fits over breathing apparatus and full turnout gear. The Cocoon provides fast, maximum protection from chemical spills, oil and gas leaks, toxic fumes and smoke, and a variety of other hazardous materials.

The Cocoon is for trained haz-mat personnel only, and is not for use in or around open flames or high heat.

Fiber blend uniforms

A new fiber blend based on Du Pont Nomex aramid provides permanent, built-in flame resistance for firefighters’ station uniforms. The new blend, consisting of 60% Nomex, 35% Avtex Durvil flame-retardant rayon, and 5% Du Pont Kevlar aramid fiber, has flame-resistant properties that will not wash or wear out for the life of the garment, according to the company.

The blend absorbs perspiration, and its durable-press characteristics help maintain a neat, fresh look.

Ten-channel portable radio

General Electric has announced its new GE4000 synthesized 10-channel portable radio for either high-band or UHF operation.

Channel frequencies and CTCSS tone signaling frequencies are programmable, and unit control is accomplished by a CMOS microprocessor having extremely low-power consumption.

The GE-4000 features a back-lit LCD panel, slim dimensions, and will be available with a two-watt power rating. The radio is also available with a high-band frequency range of 146-174 MHz and a UHF frequency range from 450-470 MHz.

Respirator cleaning device

HSC Corporation now offers Maskleen Wipes as a supplement to respirator cleaning and maintenance programs.

This large 8 X 11 disposable wipe removes dirt and grime, but contains no alcohol that might tend to damage the respirator facepiece.

Fiber drums for haz-mat waste

ResponsePak, a new fiber drum emergency package from Continental Fibre Drum, consists of five separate, lightweight containers that can be used for hazardous material storage by fire, emergency or factory cleanup crews.

An entire ResponsePak weighs only 66 pounds and provides 145 gallons of temporary storage.

ResponsePak is constructed of up to 11 layers of tough kraft linerboard. A special polyester liner is laminated to the inside ply for additional chemical resistance.

Protective overboots

A new, lightweight, reusable footcover for chemical protection has been developed by Chem-Tex Corporation. Designed to extend the life of regular footwear and protect against hazardous liquids, these boot covers are constructed of two plies of black, pigmented butyl rubber and utilize a non-slip butyl rubber sole for additional protection against slips and falls.

They offer maximum permeability protection against most chemical hazards and can be easily decontaminated for reuse, according to the manufacturer.

The Guest Company offers a special dome light for the cab of emergency vehicles. Under the rough plastic lens there are two bulbs: one white and one red for night vision protection. The bulbs may be switched on separately, so one partner can drive while the other uses the red light to check the road map. The light measures 5*/2 inches in diameter and 1 ‘⅛ inches deep. Arm and leg protection

Tempo Glove Manufacturing Company introduces the new Tempo Limguard, a dualfaced sleeve constructed from Nomex 111 and 100% wool.

The Limguard can be worn on arms or legs, and features a reinforced thumb slot, which also acts as a heel stirrup when the garment is worn as a leg protector. The reversible sleeve can be worn with the Nomex III outward for maximum flame protection, or with the wool out for maximum cold protection.
