Strobe Bulb
Federal Signal has developed a new, revolutionary strobe bulb that can be used to convert a standard light into a powerful, eye-catching strobe.
The most significant benefit of the new Strobemaster bulb is that it can be inserted into a standard single contact bayonet-type socket. Previously, strobe lamps required additional wiring and special seckets. All that is necessary for the new system is the addition of a strobemaster strobe tube and a compact Federal J20 power supply unit. Several of existing Federal warning lights can now be upgraded to strobe versions by the owner

Personal Survival
A body-worn voice amplification system and personal survival alarm has been introduced by Earmark, Inc. Designed for use by personnel wearing self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing, the system is engineered to be watertight under fire fighting and other hazardous entry conditions. The palm-sized device trade named Loud Mouth, amplifies the voice to 95 dBa loudness at 3 meters. The personal alert feature operates automatically if wearer becomes motionless for a predetermined number of seconds, or may be activated manually in case of entrapment or other conscious disability.

Information Database
Occupational/Health Services, Inc., introduces Hazardline, an online, interactive database, which provides extensive information to those with line responsibility for managing toxic substances.
Hazardline has catagories in such areas as toxicology, fire fighting recommendations and evacuation data, local, state and federal regulations, right-to-know laws, waste removal (RCRA and Superfund considerations), leaks and spills procedures, court decisions, infectious agent procedures, officially approved extinguishing media, literature references, internal shipping labeling requirements, bulletin updates and more.
Hazardline requires no specialized instruction. Simple, four-letter commands enable even novice users to call up any and all data needed on hazardous substances.

Foam Liquid
Angus Fire Armour Corporation has announced the development of a foam liquid that combines the fast knockdown of A.F.F.F. with the securing properties of Fluoroprotein. According to the manufacturer Petroseal F.F.F.P. is the fastest foam with security in the world.
Because the foam is film-forming, it can be applied as non-aspirated spray or fog for rapid knockdown of spill fires, or to large chemical fires using branch pipe or monitors, which produce low expansion foam. It is also ideal for base injection into fuel storages, due to its exceptional securing properties.
Petroseal is available in two grades for three percent or six percent solution in fresh or seawater. It is compatible with a wide range of conventional foams, including most proteins, fluoroproteins and aqueous film forming types. A storage life of more than 10 years is normal where the foam is stored in its original containers at average temperatures.

Tripod/Winch
Wells Technology, Inc., introduces a light weight tripod/winch that sets up and collapses in seconds, yet can retrieve loads up to 550 pounds.
When erected the Wells tripod fits within a 6 ½ foot diameter circle, with a height of 6 feet 8 inches. It easily folds into a compact package only 7 ½ feet long for easy storage in rescue trucks or even class A pumpers. The central header is cast aluminum with a forged steel ring that accepts a pulley or block and tackle. Equipped with 35 feet of polyester rope plus a hook and pulley assembly, the Well tripod/ winch provides quick rescue capability for fire companies and rescue squads.

CFR Simulator
The airport crash fire and rescue simulator is a new visual aid designed to help train firefighters for aircraft crash and fire incidents. The simulation system created by Firetac, consists of magnetic backed aircraft and fire apparatus symbols which are used to mock-up training problems on a porcelain coated steel display board. And because they are magnetic, once they are positioned on the board, they will stay in place. The porcelain coated surface is extremely durable and can be used with a liquid chalk marking system. The liquid chalk image goes on wet, drys instantly and is removed with an ordinary felt eraser, dry cloth or paper towel. Included with each CFR Simulator is a chrome telescoping pointer and a roll of chart tape which can be used for laying out runways and taxiways on the display board.

Rope Shields
The Atlas No. 4-5 Rope-Guard, a new device that shields the ropeline from abrasion during sliding and lowering maneuvers associated with fire fighting operations, has been introduced by Atlas Safety Equipment. Made of a hard, flexible inner material and a cotton duck outer jacket, Rope-Guard is 5 inches by 22 inches and weighs less than a pound. In the middle of the pad, running top to bottom, is a rope channel created by six horizontal strips of durable webbing. These strips assure that the rope will remain in its channel. They also reduce friction, as compared to totally enclosed sheath-type devices.

SCRA Holder
Ziamatic Corporation’s Quic-Slide breathing apparatus holder, which facilitates rapid equipment donning, is now available with a newlydesigned base section that has greater strength and permits improved operation. The holder stores breathing equipment on a bracket in fire apparatus compartments. In rear compartments the breathing apparatus slides out when a lever is touched, allowing easy donning from the rear platform. In low compartments, the holder can be used with the Quic-Swing holder. The holder swings the equipment upward to the fire fighter’s height allowing the fire fighter to slip into the harness in seconds.

Helmet
Safety First Industries introduces the Chieftain Citation, the latest in fire fighters head gear. The helmet features components that reduce or eliminate transmission shock from blows to the side, front, back and top of the head. The fiberglass outer shell resists extreme heat and will not melt or deform. The outershell, a urethane foam inner layer and a molded inner shell with a shock-absorbing top are all bonded together to provide even greater protection from impact and penetration. Chieftain Citation also features an independent, replaceable suspension system which includes shock-absorbing wedge tabs and nylon tape; this system provides excellent ventilation and prevents heat build-up between the head and inside the helmet.

Combination Respirator
National Draeger introduces the NIOSH/ MSHA approved PA-80 combination SCBA and airline respirator. A simple manifold valve worn at the waist allows air to flow either from fiberglass-wrapped aluminum cylinders worn on the back, or from an airline hose which connects into a plant’s breathing air supply system. This permits workers to enter hazardous areas using compressed air from the airline or, in case of an emergency, from the SCBA cylinder.
