Absorbent pan collects fluid
PIG Pan, an absorbent 13-by-9 1/2-by-3inch pan, catches oil and other industrial fluids before they can drip to the floor. Each pan is made of a plastic base and filled with a highly absorbent material. Once fully saturated, the pans can be burned or discarded properly.

Software for computer-aided design of fire sprinkler systems
Sigma Dynamics Corp. introduces Aquarius, a software program for computer-aided fire sprinkler design. Aquarius features complete use of AutoCAD graphics, automatic fitting selection and flow calculations, bill of materials and job-costing capabilities, and three-dimensional pipe system presentation. It operates on IBM PCs and similar hardware.

Folding scene lamp for use in wet locations
Applied Engineering’s lightweight, compact folding lamp is UL-rated for use in wet locations and will operate over a wide range of head angles. The lamp uses a 500-watt, 120-volt, shockresistant halogen bulb.
The lamp’s open hoop design enables it to be hung in any convenient location; its replaceable neoprene rubber base provides steady placement; and a large, insulated handle makes it easy to grab with heavy gloves.

The Sho-Flow indicator, available from Task Force Tips, reads gallons per minute flowing from 50 to 250 and is accurate to within 10 percent of flow.
Sho-Flow, can be built into a TFT nozzle or purchased separately for other nozzles. It features only one moving part and no electronics. For better visibility at night or in smoke, the indicator glows in the dark.

The K-Kart, available from National Draeger Inc., brings breathable air to fire scenes. It operates using two K or T industrial air cylinders rated at 3,000 psig or less.

Carbon monoxide detector
RecTec 530, available from MobvTec Inc., detects carbon monoxide at levels as low as 100 ppm. The unit’s sensor life is from 7 to 10 years. A test button and a power supply indicator show that the detector is working.
A light signals as the carbon monoxide level climbs to 300 ppm. At 450 ppm, a warning light flashes and an intermittent buzzer sounds; a continuous warning sounds at 1,000 ppm.

A straight-tubed Flexiscope stethoscope is now available from CMT Medical Products with a patented Delrin head.

Computerized reference system for chemical protective material
A computerized book on chemicals is part of a reference software system available from Lab Safety Supply.
The book contains about 5,000 breakthrough times and permeation rates for chemicals and chemical mixtures; synonyms for chemical names; material types; and references for test records. The package includes ZenWord, a word processor program, and GlovES, an expert system which generates advice on choosing chemical protective materials. A printed instruction manual assists the user.
All software can be run on IBM or compatible computers with DOS 2.0 or higher and double-density, two-sided disk drives.

Five-year warranty on hoses
Hadbar is offering a warranty for five years or one million miles—whichever comes first — on its 70 Series straight silicone radiator hose, 90 Series curved silicone hose, and 80 Series silicone heater hose.
The reusable hoses never get hard or lose resiliency and they maintain their integrity at temperatures between 350° and 400° F, the company says. The hoses eliminate cold-water leaks and don’t fail in normal fire service, according to the company.

Inflatable decon shelter
Zumro Inc. introduces its inflatable decontamination shelter, chosen at the 1987 International Fire Chiefs Exhibition as one of the year’s most innovative products.
The shelter inflates in five minutes from a compressed air supply; weighs 152 pounds; and can be packed in a carrying bag. Two handles on each side and one on each end make for easv carrying. It measures 10 feet by 12 feet, with a work area of 95 square feet.
With the shower stall and dressing area removed, the shelter can be used as a first aid or command post.

Boot features air-cushioned heel, heel-lock design
Designed from a work boot rather than a traditional firefighter’s boot, the Sierra DR55 Durafit features an air-cushioned heel and a heel-lock fit for comfort.
The heel lock secures the foot in the boot, while an air-cushioned heel works as a shock absorber.

Dri-Dek tiles snap together to form a dry, shock-absorbent cushion for vehicle compartments and hose beds. Surface holes drain water to keep truck compartments rustand bacteria-free.
Kendall U.S.A.’s Anchor Mounting System is used to mount Dri-Dek to compartment walls, creating a sound-absorbent backstop. The tiles measure 12 inches by 12 inches bv of an inch, can be trimmed to fit any area, and come in nine colors.
The tiles are covered under the company’s 10-year warranty.

Automatic dry sprinkler
Cease Hire Automatics Co.’s Automatic Dry Sprinkler combines halon gases and ABC dry chemical to extinguish wood, paper, cloth, flammable liquids, and electrical fires. An emission head automatically activates at 145° F, discharging a dry spray in seconds.
Jhe CF-100 model, about the size of a grapefruit, offers 24-hour protection and is self-contained. It’s particularly effective against fires in electrical systems, contained areas, chemical mixing locations, heating systems, and restaurant kitchens.

Gas detection device
The Model 952 Suit Alert from Chem-Tex Corp. detects most toxic and combustible gases which can leak into protective clothing or equipment.
Suit Alert’s gas sensor and electronics are contained in a high-impact polystyrene pouch and can be w’orn in a shirt pocket. When combustible or toxic gases penetrate a protective suit, an alarm sounds and a red alarm light glows continuously. SCBA features heat-resistant harness
Heat-resistant harnesses are optional features on the new Ranger l and Ranger 11 SCBA models, available from International Safety Instruments.
The harnesses are a blend of PBI and Kevlar that resists burning, melting, dripping, and degrading in temperatures up to approximately 1,000° F.
Older Ranger 1 and Ranger II models can be retrofitted with the new harness.

Plastic faceshield protects during cardiopulmonary resuscitation
The Microshield, available from Rockford Medical & Safety Co., provides a physical barrier between a victim requiring cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the rescuer.
Lightweight and pocket-sized, the Microshield’s one-way valve prevents the victim’s secretions from reaching the rescuer.
The Microshield, which is completely disposable, comes in a vinyl case with instructions for use.
