Halogen flashlight
Streamlight Inc.’s new Streamlight Slicer is a tool for fire and rescue use. The halogencycle bulb emits a beam that penetrates smoke and fog.
The Slicer’s adjustable beam allows for focusing from spot to flood. The light is anodized against corrosion and O-ringsealed. It is available in two-and three-cell models, both of which include standard lanyard ring tail caps.

Scott Aviation has released its new communication systems, the Model C and Model CP, Speak-Ezee.
Speak-Ezee, Model C, is a compact, battery-powered amplification system designed to provide voice amplification between personnel wearing Scott respiratory protective equipment.
Speak-Ezee, Model CP, provides the same functions as the Model C with an additional Personal Alert Safety System (PASS).

Air-pack seat bracket
Build-All Corporation has introduced an air-pack seat bracket that is designed for fire engines to get the interior command officer or other firefighter into an air pack while enroute to the scene. The design of this bracket allows you to mount an air pack on the front bench seat without modifying the seat itself.
Other features include sturdy 10-gauge steel construction and clips adjustable for both 30-minute and one-hour cylinders.

Salvage drum hoist
Skolnik Industries Inc. has introduced the Security Salvage Drum Hoist, a tool that improves the safe, secure shipping, handling, and overpacking of leaky, damaged drums of hazardous waste material.
The Security Salvage Drum Hoist is specially designed to work with 85-gallon salvage overpack drums. It eliminates the process of hazardous, unstable loading and unloading of damaged or leaking 55-gallon steel drums into close-fitting 85-gallon salvage overpack drums.

Computer-aided dispatch
Recordata West Inc. introduces the Resource Management System for private and public ambulance services. It improves the dispatcher’s ability to schedule and control vehicles and personnel, and can track vehicles on an electronic map.
The Resource Management System consists of two new hardware and software modules that can be added to the company’s widely used Ambulance Management System. They are ComputerAided Dispatch and Vehicle Tracking.

Lightweight hood
The new Uno (lightweight) hood from Tempo Glove Manufacturing Inc. is designed for less bulk and more comfort in moderate climates. The hood features dual plies of knitted Nomex III on the outside and Durvil F.R. rayon on the inside. The big difference from the current Uno dual-ply models is that the top of the hood is knitted of a single ply of Nomex III for less heat and more comfort under the helmet.

Waste-spill cleanup system
Designed to remove spilled liquids from roads, beaches, rivers, and lakes, the allpurpose Pierce Hydrovac system works with most existing fire department pumpers. It can be used to remove hazardous waste spills and for salvage operations to prevent water damage.
The Pierce Hydrovac system is readily: portable and can be used wherever needed. It is capable of picking up 60 gallons per minute and will lift from depths of more than 30 feet. The system works without electric motors, gas engines, or rotating parts, thus decreasing the danger of causing an explosion in a volatile atmosphere.

New fireboots
Servus Rubber’s Firebreaker boots are now available in half sizes. The new half sizes give firefighters better fit, which also increases the boot’s protective capabilities. The boots also have highly flame-retardant insulation, Protekshin, built-in shin guard, and six-layer sole.

New software package
Intelligent Choice Software announces the “First Responder” software package, which provides quick access to time-critical information that is used when dispatching emergency service personnel.

Gas-powered smoke fans
Gasoline Powered Fans (GPF) from Halprin International, Sierra Equipment Co., use “positive-pressure” ventilation to enhance fireground operations. The 18-inch gasoline-powered fan weighs only 43.5 pounds, or half the weight of its electric counterpart, and needs 5% less space. It moves 10,750 cfm—10% more than an electric fan. It does not require an external power source.

Thermal imager
I.S.I. Group Inc. announces the Model 91 VideoTherm hand-held, real-time thermal imager for detecting “hot spots” that reveal electrical overload, heat loss, or potential machine malfunction. The system is non-cryogenic and is compatible with standard video tape recorders.
The VideoTherm camera converts infrared radiation to black-and-white television images showing gradations from relatively hot (white) temperatures to relatively cool (black) temperatures.

Safety control panel
A new CXL life safety control panel has been introduced by Pyrotronics. This new system expands the capabilities of XL-3 Fire Detection Systems. The XL-3 Fire Detection System allows the user to test, adjust, and print each individual detector’s sensitivity from a control panel.
With the new CXL fire command center, detector information may be displayed and printed at a central location for sites containing multiple XL-3s.

Protective insoles
Rainfair Inc. has added a new insole to its line. Called the Aerowick Insole, this custom insulator insert is made of polypropylene foam that has a quick-dry wicking action, which draws moisture away from the foot. Thousands of polypropylene filaments run vertically throughout the insole to continually remove moisture.
The insole is orthopedically designed for people who work outdoors, and the insole keeps feet dry while the breathable foam insulates against heat and cold. The polypropylene insert molds to foot contours and helps cushion the foot from shock while providing support and control.

New apparatus doors
New roller shutter-type doors are available on fire apparatus from Pierce Manufacturing Inc. They are designed to provide better compartment access in narrow streets and eliminate the chance of accidents with open compartment doors.
Constructed of easy-to-clean anodized laths, the roller shutter-type doors’ locking mechanism incorporates a cross bar and actuating rollers at each side of the shutter, which engage the latches, making the door suitable for one-handed operation.

National Fire Hose Corp. has introduced a state-of-the-art line of nitrile-covered fire hose for industrial use. This new, advanced construction is the result of superior woven jacket technology combined with revolutionary nitrile rubber compounds and modern computer-aided manufacturing, according to the company.
A lightweight, easy-to-maneuver, quickaction fire hose, it also has been designed to stand up to wear and tear. It is available in both 500-psi and 600-psi tested categories.
