J. W. Speaker Corporation introduced a line of hand-held portable plug-in lamps molded of engineering grade rubber to resist shock and provide chemical/weather resistance.

Chin strap

Milwaukee Strap Inc. produces a chin strap designed to fit over both facepieces and breathing apparatus. The product meets NFPA # 1972, ANSI Z89.1-1969, and military MIL-H-1987G standards and fits or adapts to all fire helmets. Two separate leather straps join together to form the chin strap, constructed with Velcro hook and loop fasteners.

Insulated hood

Tempo Clove Manufacturing Company introduces Tempo Uno, an insulated flameretardant, two-sided hood that’s small enough to fit into a fireman’s pocket. The product combines knitted Dupont Nomex with 100 percent worsted wool to offer protection and comfort for the head, face and neck. Completely reversible, the Tempo Uno insulates against the dual hazards of severe heat and frigid temperatures. Firefighters can wear the Nomex surface out for greater flame protection, or with the worsted wool surface out for bitter cold conditions.

CO2 fire extinguishers

The Sentinel line of carbon dioxide fire extinguishers is available in 5-, 10-, 15-, and 20-pound models from J. L. Industries. Suited for small surface Class A fires and all Class B and Class C fires, Sentinel fire extinguishers contain liquid carbon dioxide under pressure. Basic features include a high-pressure, rust-free aluminum cylinder, a large discharge horn, and a common thread brass valve for easy charging.

Butterfly valves

A line of Sierra Butterfly valves, designed for operation at higher pressures, has been introduced by the Halprin Supply Company Rated at 200 psi working pressure, the valve has a ductile iron body and ductile iron disc with electroless nickel coating (bronze and stainless steel available), and a Buna-N liner, vulcanized for guaranteed adhesion. End plates are available in either straight pattern or 15-degree-angle pattern. Connections are available in NST or Storz types.

Dispenser

The FireOut Systems Dispenser is a 2 1/2 gallon pressurized water canister with its valve handle and pressure gauge panel mounted for easy access by the pump operator. It adds FireOut instantly to booster tank water. One gallon of FireOut is enough to treat 500 gallons of water.

Disposable CPR lung

Baby CPR manikins manufactured by Simulaids Inc. have been enhanced by the addition of an external, disposable lung. The new feature replaces an internal lung used in three CPR manikins, nine-month old, premature, and newborns.

New pump transmission

The Waterous Company’s new Model TFA flywheel power take-off device allows the pump to take power directly from the engine, avoiding the chassis transmission with its inherent power losses and limitations. The pump can be engaged or disengaged hydraulically while the vehicle is stationary or moving. The pump can be operating as the truck arrives at a fire. Pump-and-roll speeds as high as 35-40 mph are possible.

Operations simulator

The fire operations simulator from Firetac Systems is a low-cost, easy-to-use visual aid for training, pre-fire planning, or post-fire analysis purposes. The system uses magnetic symbols to mock-up fire problems on a porcelain coated steel display board.

Duracell U.S.A. has introduced a line of three heavy-duty flashlights made of shock-resistant, high-density polypropylene. These lights, powered by Duracell alkaline industrial batteries, are UL-approved for use in hazardous locations.

Wheeler Protective Apparel is offering an improved hand protection line. Gloves and mittens in aluminized Kevlar or glass cloth, leather, wood, or synthetic have been cut fuller for improved comfort. Chimney fire warning

A chimney fire alarm system manufactured by Minuteman International features chimney thermometer and wall-mounting alarm to provide advance warning of a potential chimney fire. The thermometer mounts to the stove’s stack and a batteryoperated alarm is triggered when the stack temperature exceeds a safe, pre-set temperature.

Fire Burns Through PA Aerospace Supplier

A large fire broke out Monday night at SPS Technologies, an aerospace supplier in Abington Township.
