Casualty Simulation Kit
Simulaids, Inc. announces an expanded EMT Casualty Simulation kit. The kit includes a container for mixing simulated blood, a sealable, leakproof plastic container to accommodate moulages after use, a one pound jar of cold cream, one pound each of white and dark plastalene and two spray misters for simulating perspiration.

Portable Monitor
The Akron Brass Company has introduced the new Apollo 3422, a combination monitor for deck mount or portable use. This multi-application monitor utilizes a quick disconnect mechanism which allows for quick changeover. Constructed of Pyrolite and weighing 38 pounds, the Apollo 3422 allows flows of 1,200 gpm and a full 360° rotation in the direct connect truck base. The new monitor also features low friction loss with no more than 10 psi at 800 gpm in the portable base.

Radios
A portable, hands-free voice-activated control module has been produced by the David Clark Company, Inc. The VOX Model V7000, a compact 7-ounce unit, is operated by a single 9 volt rechargeable Nicad battery that lasts 6-10 hours. The sensitivity level can be field adjusted. It comes with a guarded switch to prevent accidental mode changes, and a belt clip for extra convenience. Battery condition indicators, a mini jack for external charger and other controls are easily accessable.

Immersion Suit
Stearns Manufacturing Company, introduces a cold water suit for emergency rescue. The Stearns model ISS-590 Cold” Water Immersion Suit has been developed to protect, insulate and extend survival time in a cold water immersion. The one-piece suit with integral hood, boots and gloves is watertight. Buoyancy is provided by inherently buoyant closed-cell foam. Thermal insulation is provided by the same minute air cells which limit convection heat loss.

Check Valve
In the event of a sudden break in the air line, the Coilhose Safety Excess-Flow check valve automatically shuts off air flow. Precisionengineered, the safety valve protects personnel and property from whipping air hoses. The lightweight, corrosion-resistant safety valve meets OSHA Safety Regulations, and the permanently sealed unit is tamperproof.
The Safety Excess-Flow check valve allows full unrestricted air flow in normal (open) position. The safety valve automatically resets itself after a repair is made.

Fire Blanket
A disposable fire blanket expressly designed to aid in escaping a fire has been introduced by Romaine, Inc. The non-woven polyester blanket filled with gelled water, which cools as it evaporates, provides maximum protection from a fire’s heat according to the manufacturer.
Generously proportioned, the 50-inch by 72-inch blanket shields the head and body from intense heat and flame. The blanket can also be thrown over the base of a fire to extinguish flames and create an escape path. It is sterilized to help prevent infection of a burn victim. Non-toxic and fully tested, the disposable Kold Wrap fire blanket weighs 12 pounds.

Hydraulic Tool
Rescue Tools Marketing, Inc., announces the arrival of the OWI Spreader. The OWI is a hand operated, one-man hydraulic rescue tool which needs no hoses, lines, or cords to provide power. The OWI can spread, lift, or push to gain access for the rescue team by breaking door locks, hinges, or seat bolts, and by moving distorted metal and debris. Its tips are manufactured from Sheffield plate, and heat-treated to 42 Rockwell. The force exerted at the tips is 8,000 psi and 22,000 psi and can go into an opening as small as 1/8 inches and spread to 5 and 7/8 inches.

High Temperature Gloves
New Quic-Cloth Hi-Temp gloves for handling hot debris or metals are now available from Ziamatic Corporation. Tested for applications up to 1200°F., the inside of the glove never exceeds 140°F. For maximum protection, the gloves have a three-layer construction. The outer shell is made of a Kevlar/PBI blended cloth that resists cuts and abrasion, as well as high heat.

Leak-Sealing Bags
Vetter Systems introduces leak-sealing bags to their Lifesavers lineup. The bags can be inflated in less than 10 seconds to seal off large tank cars or tank truck leaks with pressures up to 20 psi.
The Leak-Sealing Bags are constructed of tough, multi-layered synthetic rubber with reinforced nylon fabric and can hold up to 48 feet of head pressure. For protection against chemicals, PVC and hypolon wrappers are available to act as “acid-covers” for the bags, in addition to a closed-cell nitrel sealing plate. The Vetter bag is 12.6 inches by 26.8 inches and less than 1-inch thick, uninflated. It can be fitted for containers from 19 inches in diameter to tank size.

Parka
Lion Uniform announces the addition of an all new heavy duty, hooded, 3-way parka. The new parka consists of an outer shell with a permanently sewn-in waterproof lining and a completely removable tailored jacket that fits inside. The outer shell or the inner jacket can be worn separately for different weather conditions. For severe cold, the complete assembly of outer shell and jacket ensures warmth and comfort.
The outer shell features a full-length inside storm flap, heavy-duty 2-way zipper, slash pockets, and a sleeve pocket. Backboard
A lightweight disposable spinal immobilization backboard for disaster preparedness has been introduced by Packaging Corporation of America. Weighing 13 lbs., Porta-Board is easily stored and transported for rapid deployment.
The standard length backboards have a 16-inch wide base with 5-inch wing flaps on either side. Porta-Board will support a 300 lb. person without danger of sagging or breaking. The units also have been field tested for both water and land rescue, and will fit a standard flotation basket stretcher for deep water rescue.

Laerdal Medical Corporation has introduced their latest model of the Laerdal Suction Unit emergency portable aspirator. The new aspirator features increased free airflow, a larger collection bottle of over 1,000 ml, a hinged transparent cover replacing the present emesis basin and a power system resulting in increased operating time. In addition to the standard unit, it is also available in a model fitted with a vacuum regulator and gauge.

Carbon Monoxide Indicator
The Carbon Monoxide Dead/Stop by Tracor Atlas, Inc., is a small badge that warns when the level of CO increases to hazardous levels. The Dead/Stop has a small chemical dot that changes colors with the level of CO. Good for 30 davs, the badge has the ability to regenerate itself after being exposed to CO.

Headlight
Now available from Cairns & Brother is the Crane Head-Lite, a disposable flashlight that attaches to all Cairns & Brother helmets to provide a bright, hands-free source of light. The Crane Head-Lite is available with two different bracket assemblies made of Delrin nylon plastic. The bracket assemblies have been designed to focus the beacon of light so that the firefighter does not have to maneuver his head or helmet to direct the beam properly. The headlight will provide up to four hours of light, even in wet conditions, and is discarded once its energy has been expended.

Alkaline Battery
Duracell has introduced the industry’s first 7.5 volt alkaline battery designed specifically to power the sealed beam emergency lanterns used by police and fire departments, the Duracell ID9030 alkaline batteries are rated at 40 ampere hours. They are onethird the weight and volume of the commonly used NEDA 903 regular zinc carbon batteries, but they deliver more than twice the usable energy. The steel-encased battery features all-welded connections and insulated screw-type terminals and is built to withstand rough handling in a variety of weather and temperature conditions. The battery has a shelf life of up to three years.

Chemical Suit
A Chemical Work Suit designed for protection against hazardous chemicals is now available from Standard Safety Equipment Company. The three-piece suit, consisting of a chemical jacket, bib overall and chemical splash hood, is made of Standard Safety’s exclusive StaSafe Hi-Glo fabric. Hi-Glo is a lightweight, launderable material that is highly resistant to a wide range of chemicals, mildew and rot. The jacket is designed with raglan shoulders; an extra roomy cut; and features Seal-Tight sleeves, which insure a liquid-tight seal at the jacket/glove juncture to prevent forearm burns.

Light Bars
A new generation of enclosed light bars has been announced by the Emergency Vehicle Equipment Division of Smith & Wesson. The Roadmaster series come in four different models. Each of the four model’s specifications are designed to meet the needs of fire vehicles. All are supplied with a 12-foot, 11-conductor hard-wired cable and an 867E mounting kit. Four threaded mounting bolts are included should direct vehicle installation be required. All light bars are available in 44, 48 and 52-inch widths.

Belt Pouch
RescuPak, a new six-pocket nylon belt pouch, has been released by Denver Specialized Equipment Company. After two years of field testing, paramedics selected a nylon construction for its light weight and durability. RescuPak repels water, resists scuffing, and won’t dry out or crack. Its six pockets include a rear compartment large enough to hold paramedic shears, scissors, tourniquet, or wallet. Velcro enclosures keep all instruments secure.

Kendall Plastics Inc. introduces Dri-Dek, the self-draining flooring that keeps water and rust out of compartments. The 12 X 12-inch tiles snap together to form a wall-to-wall cushion of any size to fit any compartment. Gas Detector
Grace Industries, Inc. has announced a new gas detector that features response to a broad range of gases and hydrocarbon vapors. The Little Gem Sniffer features quality construction and advanced signal processing circuitry. The detector is housed in an allsteel enclosure and has no fragile meter to break or become uncalibrated. The sensor element is attached to a retractile rubber cord and when the sensor is exposed to a gaseous atmosphere or gas leak, a beep tone in synchronism with a flashing visual indicator occurs. The faster the beep rate, the closer the gas leak.

Firefighting Unit
Win-Son, Inc. announces a new addition to their line of skid mounted firefighting units. The Win-Son model M-100 Mini Skid-A-Load firefighting unit is designed to fit into the bed of an intermediate size pickup truck. The tank is made of heavy-duty polypropylene, and is available in capacities of 75 and 100 gallons. The pump is recessed behind a full width polypropylene pump panel, with all functions remote controlled from the panel. The pump is a Hale model VF, with a 2-cycle engine, capable of flowing 70 gpm at 85 psi, or 10 gpm at 125 psi.
