Voice in Mask
Gentex Corp., has introduced a voice communications system to be used when wearing breathing apparatus. The conversational communications unit provides transmission through all protective masks. The unit is Factory Mutual approved for use in explosive environments. It features a lightweight, portable and self-contained speaker-amplifier unit intended to resist damage by heat, water and chemicals. A choice of three electret element microphones is available; throat, boom or surface activated. A battery charger comes with each unit. Standard harness clip and snap fastener make the speaker simple to attach to belt, apparatus strap or D-ring. The throat microphone is fastened around the neck with an adjustable elastic band with Velcro fasteners.

Hydrant Switch Valve
Akron Brass Company offers a four-way fire hydrant valve that gets water to the fire quickly at hydrant pressure, and then allows a pumper to add pressure to the initial line and uses the hydrant without shutting down the hydrant This valve has full flow capability, low friction loss, and permits the immediate application of water on the fire with a 2-1/2 or 3-inch supply line. Hydrant and suction adapters are available in four diameters, with special threads at no extra charge, for the Akron 628.

Turnout Gear
Fyrepel Products Inc., offers Sterling Heights model turnout gear, 20 percent lighter than conventional fire coats and pants. The turnout gear meets all NFPA and OSHA standards, Fyrepel states, and has an outer shell of 7.5ounce Nomex and an inner lining of Nomex batting. It is available with a vapor barrier of neoprene on cotton or Gore-Tex on Nomex High bib pants are designed with knee reinforcements, and the short-length coat features a high protective neck collar with oversize velcro throat tab, extra elbow-forearm reinforcement and a take-up strap Pants and coat have zipper and velcro closures.

Portable Reel
Clifford B. Hannay & Son, Inc., offers the 06-10-11 portable cable reel to provide efficient access to electric power. The reel is carried by a steel handle, and features capacities of 100 to 275 feet of 12/3 to 16/3 cable. Direct crank rewind makes pickup fast and ready for storage. The reels are free-standing, and one end of the cable is locked to the reel by means of a slot on the disk.

Adjustable Nozzle
KK Products offers the FS-125, 1 1/2-inch convertible gallonage nozzle. Gallonage conversions can be made from 60 to 95 to 125 gallons per minute with quick-change seats A rotating nozzle head gives a full fog pattern and a straight stream flow; the nozzle has a stainless steel ball shutoff and a bumper ring, bail handle, and swivel base.

Telescoping Gas Probe
Mine Safety Appliances Co., has introduced a lightweight fiberglass telescoping probe for use with its Spotter gas detectors. It allows instruments to extend up to 21-feet to measure gases in hard-to-reach or potentially dangerous places. Hand-held and battery-operated, the probe is a five-section, tubular unit that can be extended and locked at lengths of 13, 17 and 21 feet. It includes pole assembly, a mounting cradle and a magnifier for readout at maximum extension.

Portable Pumps
Waterous offers three 18-hp portable pumps powered by Briggs and Stratton engines. Each pump has an impeller and volute for specific performance ranges. The PB18-G2015B is a gear drive, high pressure pump with performance ranging from 20 gpm at 400 psi to 95 gpm at 100 psi, and has 2-inch suction and 1½-inch discharge.
The PB I8-2515B is a direct drive pump with 2 1/2-inch suction and 1 1/2-inch discharge, and has a performance range from 30 gpm at 175 psi to 160 gpm at 60 psi. Both of these engines have ball discharge valves. The PB18-3030C is direct drive, high-volume pump which delivers 360 gpm at 30 psi or 120 gpm at 110 psi, and has a 3-inch suction and discharge with a check valve.
All three models feature electric and recoil starters and liquid-filled discharge gauges for easy reading.

Blood Pressure Monitor
Biomega Corp., offers an automatic, portable blood pressure and pulse monitor, model 592. It uses a motion artifact rejection system and displays systolic, diastolic, and pulse readings, with mean arterial pressure (MAP) displayed on command. Readings are held in memory for recall with audible and visible pulse indicators present during determination cycles. The model comes with an internal nickel-cadmium battery pack, charger/adapter, connector line, and a standard adult cuff.

Bag Resuscitators
Laerdal Medical Corp., introduces handoperated bag resuscitators, available in adult, child and infant sizes with silicone and polysulfone components. These materials can be sterilized by steam autoclave, ETO, pasteurization or cold sterilization methods. The resuscitators feature silicone masks that are easy to grip, and which provide a leak-proof seal, A swivel connector between the patient valve and mask allows the operator to change positions. There is a snap-on coupling of the valve to the bag for firm attachment. All models can provide PEEP and CPAP, and all are available in carrying cases, complete with masks, airways and hi-oxygen kit for administration of up to 100 percent oxygen.

Cylinder Carrier
Ziamatic Corp., offers an air cylinder cafrier that holds two bottles, the Zico dual air cylinder carrier can transport spare air bottles, and can hold and transport complete SCBA units. The carrier has a large hanci grip for carrying, and spring tension clips to hold bottles. Clips are black nylon coated to prevent cylinder abrasion. Carriers are available to hold 15, 30 and 60 minute air capacity cylinders with diameters of 5¼, 6 3/4 and 7 1/4-inches.

Elevated Nozzle
Pasanen & Associates, Inc., offers a portable elevated monitor nozzle attachment (PEMNA) that attaches to pickup truck tailgates and elevating platform buckets. It may be used with a Siamese and a 500-gpm nozzle on tailgates, and on a bucket can handle 250 gpm. The nozzle can be locked into position, to be operated without a fire fighter The aluminum unit weighs about 25 pounds.
