Freeman Papers at M.I.T.
The papers of John Ripley Freeman, who conducted the first hydraulic experiments in the United States that were related to fire protection, are now available for researchers at the archives of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Freeman’s experiments are the basis for hose friction loss, and hose stream vertical height and horizontal reach tables.
A guide to the papers, which cover more than 150 feet of shelf length, can be obtained by writing to the Archivist, M.I.T., Building 14N-118, Cambridge, Mass. 02139.
