Grant Money Uses

Rural fire departments in Ohio serving communities of less than 10,000 have been using matching grant money from the Rural Community Fire Protection Program to obtain equipment and to organize new departments.

The money has been used to buy communications equipment, protective clothing, helmets, breathing apparatus and tanks, backpacks and hose. The Ohio Fire Academy receives $6000 annually for training fire fighters in wildfire control, haz-mat fires, equipment maintenance, fire and arson investigation and fire photography.

The grant money is available to from the Forest Service, United States Department of Agriculture’s Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act, and is matched by the state.
