Joe Donovan, former superintendent of the National Fire Academy, has joined the National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors Inc. as a consultant.

Donovan will act as a liaison between fire equipment distributors and manufacturers and fire departments. He will develop inspection training programs for portable fire extinguishers and fire protection systems; the programs will be free of charge to fire departments.

The White House appointed Donovan as NFA superintendent in January 1982. While in that position, he developed the Master Curriculum Plan through which the fire executive, command and staff, and technical specialist programs were implemented. He left the NFA in July 1986.

E. James Monihan, chairman of the National Volunteer Fire Council, participated in a task force on AIDS organized by the Charles Mack Mathias National Study Center for Trauma and Emergency Medical Systems in Baltimore.

The task force, which met in October, has proposed ways to educate emergency medical workers about the prevention, diagnosis, and management of acquired immune deficiency syndrome. Its findings were presented at an AIDS conference for health professionals last month.
