Nash County (NC) Firefighters Stop Fast-Moving Fire

On Sunday, December 7, 2014, Nash County (NC) 911 received a phone call reporting a farm house on fire on Halifax Road in the Dortches section of Red Oak, North Carolina. Fire departments from Red Oak, West Mount, and Nashville along with Nash County EMS Units were dispatched. Units responding could see a large column of smoke in the sky

Responding firefighters were giving an update that the farmer’s daughter reported that there was a fire in her father’s house and he may have reentered the burning building.

The first-in units from Red Oak reported that they had a working fire in a one-story frame house located about 3,000 feet off of the main road and that they were going into service with 1 3/4-inch water lines and checking for the occupant.

Fire apparatus had to drive down a long dirt road to get near the burning home. Firefighters made a quick check and found that the occupant had exited the burning building. The first line was stretched to the  B & C section of the building where heavy fire was showing and they made a quick exterior attack. While other firefighters were stretching two other water lines to the A and B sections of the building.

A quick exterior knock down was made allowing firefighters to make an interior attack and they had the blaze under control in about 30 minutes.

The occupant was checked by EMS and found to be OK and there were no other injuries.

Firefighters remained on the scene for a couple of hours hitting hot spots and overhauling.

Nash County Fire Marshal’s was notified and is investigating the cause.
