NVFC and Duracell Launch Power Those Who Protect Us

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) and Duracell have partnered to launch the Power Those Who Protect Us battery donation program. Through the program, Duracell is donating over 10 million batteries to volunteer fire departments to help power life-saving equipment. Consumers can increase the battery donation to their local departments by participating in the program.

The program kicked off this week with an event featuring NFL “great” Kurt Warner in New York City. The momentum continues today with a series of local morning news appearances by NVFC Chairman Philip C. Stittleburg on radio and TV stations in 20 markets across the country. The National Volunteer Fire Council web site contains a schedule of appearances, information how to learn more about the program and how it will benefit the volunteer fire service.

The Power Those Who Protect Us program helps build greater awareness around the challenges volunteer firefighters face on a daily basis and the need to help support them. Most fire departments in the U.S. are staffed by volunteer firefighters who rely on approximately 20 percent of their funding to come from local fundraising and donations.

Consumers can participate in the program to give back to local volunteer firefighters, who devote countless hours of their free time to protecting our communities. When consumers purchase specially-marked CopperTop battery packs, Duracell will make a battery donation to volunteer fire departments to help power communication devices and life-saving equipment. By going to www.duracell.com/protect and entering the donation code on their packaging, consumers can go one step further and specifically earmark their donation to go to their local department.

“We are excited to partner with Duracell for the Power Those Who Protect Us battery donation program,” said NVFC Executive Director Heather Schafer. “Volunteer departments need batteries to power many life-saving devices. From alert systems and communication devices, to thermal imaging cameras, radios, and flashlights, batteries are a key component in ensuring a department is ready to respond. We encourage consumers to support their local volunteer departments by purchasing specially-marked Duracell batteries.”

Some local departments will be hosting special fundraising events in conjunction with the program.
