S.W.Johnson Steam Fire Engine Co#1 Celebrates Golden Anniversary

On May 21st 2011 the S.W.Johnson Steam Fire Engine Company will celebrate the Golden Anniversary of 23-Quad, a 1961 Howe Quad that has seen service for the company for 50 years. The company’s celebration will be much like a “Wet Down” that fire company’s have for new fire apparatus but this celebration will be for a truck that already has 50 years of memories. Music, Food, Drink and items for sale commemorating the celebration for the oldest front line truck in service in Rockland County.

The Quad was purchased in 1960 for $27,000, replacing the 1940 American Lafrance Quad that saw nearly 20 years of service. Originally powered by a Waukesha gas engine she was refitted to a Detriot Diesel by the late 60’s. She had another upgrade in 1980 adding the stainless steel pump panel and air brakes. She is a Quad, meaning she can pump, provide ladders, hose and equipment making her extremely useful in fighting fires for her 5o years of service to S.W.Johnson fire company.

Come on out to the firehouse at 37 Bridge St in Garnerville for the rededication at 3 o’clock and the wetdown celebration from 5 to 10PM.
