- Firefighters, police officers, and EMS workers and their immediate families can enter BUSCH ENTERTAINMENT CORPORATION‘s SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, and Sesame Place theme parks free by showing current identification and proof of employment. For subsequent visits in 2001, emergency service personnel will continue to receive free admission for themselves and a 25-percent discount on admission for accompanying guests. The offer is valid every day for the balance of 2001 at SeaWorld in Orlando, Florida, San Diego, California, and San Antonio, Texas; Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay, Florida, and Williamsburg, Virginia; and Sesame Place near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
- HALE PRODUCTS, INC. is restructuring its operations into a Fire Suppression Equipment unit and a Hydraulic Tools and Equipment unit for improved market focus and customer response. The Fire Suppression unit includes Hale pump and foam lines and Class 1 advanced electronic control systems, gauges, and controls. Ron Ewers was named president of the unit. The hydraulic equipment group includes Hurst Jaws of Life and Lukas rescue tools. Uwe Kirchner was named president of the unit.
- The NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION (NFPA) received a $500,000 grant from the Fire Investment and Response Enhancement (FIRE) Act to train fire service representatives in implementing Risk WatchT, the proposal NFPA’s child-injury prevention curriculum, in local schools.
The NFPA appointed Nancy McNabb regional manager, building code, central field office. She will be responsible for expanding field outreach for the proposed NFPA 5000 Building CodeTM. McNabb will work with state and local building code officials and others in the code development process and will represent the NFPA at code hearings and legislative sessions.

VFIS launched the Emergency Services Education and Consulting Group (ESECG). The new organization is designed to help fire, EMS, law enforcement, and related public entities with strategic planning, evaluation, executive searches, risk-management training, and grant proposal writing.
Richard Patrick, director of EMS programs for ESECG, was appointed to the College of Fellows of the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch. Patrick is former chief of EMS for Lebanon, Pennsylvania. The mission of the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch is to advance and support the public safety emergency dispatch professional.
David F. Wyrwas was appointed president of VFIS. Previously, he served as vice president of VFIS Benefits.

PIERCE MANUFACTURING, INC. received a three-year contract from the city of Chicago, Illinois, to provide 18 Dash aerial ladder trucks equipped with 100-foot medium-duty ladders. The three-year contract has an option for two more years, and the total order could be for as many as 40 to 45 trucks over the life of the contract. The apparatus’ 10-foot, eight-inch overall height was specified to accommodate the city’s low historic bridges, viaducts, and fire station door heights.
Pierce completed its 500th Contender Series fire apparatus, which was delivered to the Central Ohio Joint Fire District in Centerburg, Ohio.
- STREAMLIGHT, INC. named Walter Kaihatu vice president of sales, responsible for managing sales efforts for all markets in the United States and Canada.
- ROAD RESCUE, INC., a subsidiary of Spartan Motors, Inc., plans to build a $4 million, 100,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in Marion, South Carolina. The facility will produce custom Type II ambulances and is expected to be ready by January, 2002.
- ALLISON TRANSMISSION, a division of General Motors, named Kenneth Michel chief information officer.
