Survivair Conducts Retrofit Program
A retrofit program for its Mark I self-contained breathing apparatus is being conducted by Survivair, a division of U.S. Divers Co. The program has been approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
The parts involved in the retrofit program are the high pressure hose, the regulator and the low-air alarm. Survivair urges that the Mark I breathing apparatus immediately be sent collect directly to the factory, 3323 Warner Ave., Santa Ana, Calif. 92702. Survivair is replacing the necessary parts without charge and is paying all shipping charges, so the retrofit program costs the owners of the Mark I apparatus nothing.
Survivair anticipates “a timely turnaround” period for breathing apparatus sent to the factory. Answers to any questions about the retrofit program can be obtained by phoning Susie Wagner, 714-540-8010, at Survivair.
The institution of the retrofit program ends Survivair’s suspension of sales and distribution of the Mark I in response to a NIOSH advisory following the malfunctioning of a Mark I model 9845 breathing apparatus at the Parkland, Wash., Fire Department. Survivair reported that a hose failed, but there were no injuries.
