Training Officer Toolbox: Simulations

Training simulations allow firefighters to practice decision making skills.

By Brian Ward

Simulations are one form of tactical decision games that provide useful training situations and allow firefighters to gain experience.

This experience can be elevated with an increase of realism or stress through time limits, weight of gear, difficulty of radio transmission and more. They are extremely useful at assessing the knowledge of your department strategy and tactics, and being able to repeat the training without staffing or budget concerns. We will be presenting the workshop Developing Tactical Decision Games at FDIC International 2016 (REGISTER HERE).
