After basic skill levels are identified and practiced, every firefighter should be aware of the many possible things that can go wrong with the equipment we use as well as the potential problems inside the hazard zones that we operate in. Discuss the list of potential problems that can occur with self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) use and determine the proper solutions for dealing with the problem according to local standards and manufacturer instructions. With SCBA, your solutions must ensure that the facepiece seal is not compromised and that the proper Mayday or priority traffic messages are transmitted as necessary. DO NOT KEEP THESE PROBLEMS TO YOURSELF. NOTIFY YOUR PARTNER(S) as they may be able to help you out. Where possible, practice or recreate the problem in a safe environment under the supervision of a qualified instructor.
