Dec. 25—DERBY — A firefighter was sent to the hospital during a 3-alarm fire in a Derby home on Minerva Street on Christmas night, according to officials.
“It was a minor injury,” said Tom Biggs, assistant chief of the Derby Fire Department.
“Seven people live in the house and all have been displaced,” he added. “The house is not a total loss but is not habitable. The fire was kept to the house of origin and was under control in around 30 to 45 minutes.”
The fire spread to all three floors of the house, he said, adding there’s “significant damage” to all floors.
All the building’s tenants made it out safely and the American Red Cross is helping them find temporary housing, he said, adding two cats were also displaced from the fire, which was reported at 5 p.m.
