4-Alarm Industrial Fire in NY, Chemicals Burning

Firefighters in Buffalo, New York, responded to reports of fire and explosions at the Niagara Lubricant industrial complex at approximately 6a.m. this morning. Oil and grease inside the structure made it difficult to fight the fire before crews were instructed to leave the building after several propane tanks were reported to be inside, according to reports from
WKBW and
WGRZ in Buffalo.

A foam truck from the airport was called in by the Buffalo Fire Department since oils, grease and chemicals are involved in the incident. One report described the scene and the ongoing events:

“Nearby residents have not been asked to evacuate, however, they have been advised to keep their windows closed as thick, black smoke continues to billow through the area. Several explosions could be heard at the scene, and the smoke could be seen from miles away.  Chandler Street has been closed to traffic and National Grid was on scene this morning to cut power to the immediate area.”
