ADD YOUR VIEWPOINT TO &#34ROUNDTABLE&#34 IN THE FEBRUARY ISSUE OF FIRE ENGINEERING

Subject: The “Most Often Forgotten” Safety Rules

Have you observed that department members tend to forget about or disregard certain safety rules and standards more than others? If so, which ones? How does your department handle the situation with the firefighter? Were the actions taken effective?

Background: We often see or hear about firefighters’ becoming injured or killed as a result of violating “standard” safe practices. Some examples might include being burned because they did not wear their safety hoods, suffering smoke inhalation because they violated mandatory SCBA policies, or failing to turn on their PASS devices before they perceived they might be in danger.

Deadline for submissions: December 1.

Submit your comments to maryjd@pennwell.com. Indicate “Roundtable” on the subject line.
