Wildland firefighters in Arizona will be doing things a little different this year following the Yarnell Hill Fire, which killed 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots in late June 2013.
Although Arizona State Forester Scott Hunt can’t say if the Yarnell tragedy is responsible for the changes because of pending lawsuits, his agency has prepositioned equipment around the state earlier than normal, according to KTAR (http://bit.ly/1q7WXSu).
Fire crews may also be hitting wildfires harder and earlier than in the past, and the state will be testing GPS positioning as a part of firefighters’ gear.
