Ambulance Driver Dies in Collision While Responding to Medical Call

Newton, MA, November 26, 2001-A 26-year old EMT was killed when the ambulance he was driving collided with a passenger vehicle.

A passenger vehicle struck the ambulance at an intersection. The ambulance slid to the side, spun around, and overturned. The EMT later died at a local hospital; a paramedic who was in the ambulance at the time of the accident was treated for injuries. Passengers in the vehicle were not seriously injured.

The ambulance was responding to a call for a cardiac arrest. Reportedly, the ambulance warning lights and siren had been activated.

Officials have not determined which vehicle had the red and which had the green light at the intersection.
