The Poplar Bluff (MO) Fire Department designed this SMEAL unit as a first-response pumper and aerial unit, according to Firefighter Ralph Stucker.

It has a shorter wheelbase to maneuver around narrow streets and is stationed in an older downtown area with multistoried buildings. Hose chutes on both sides of the ladder allow for either forward or reverse hoselays. It has high side compartments since ground ladders are stored through the rear of the vehicle. The 12-square-mile city has a population of 16,889.

The 10-square-mile district includes a population of 40,000.
